Who: Jaune and Mako
What: Well. Awakening was definitely a thing. Time to stress bake
When: June 14th, after the morning after
Where: Jaune's House!
[ so. awakening.
mako hasn't really been getting enough sleep. the bags under his eyes are starting to become more prominent now, especially after that night. he's been thinking hard about his persona, about what all of this means, about the velvet room... he's the kind of guy who'd rather have the answers to everything than know nothing at all, so this is all really stressful and it's racking his brain constantly.
so when jaune texts him and asks to meet up, mako doesn't refuse. he really needs the day off.
he's outside of jaune's place now and presses on the doorbell. ]

gonna assume jaune mentioned they would be baking...
Mako, on the other hand, had actually seemed pretty willing to meet up. He answers the door.]
Hey. Glad you agreed to come. I got all the stuff out already and we have the house to ourselves.
[He says this last part in case Mako might want to talk...Jaune knows he does, but he also realizes that not everyone is up for sharing just yet. He moves aside so Mako can come in and starts making his way back towards the kitchen.]
okay! sorry i wasn't sure
Sure. You know I'm not really a baking guy, but I'll help where I can.
[ talking would be a good thing, yeah. now that they're able to...they should at least try to set some things straight. who they are, what happened in their other lives...what this means for their friendship going forward, if anything at all.
mako steps into the house, leaves his shoes by the door, and then follows jaune back into the kitchen. ]
So... Your name? On the app? Is that your actual name now?
it's fine! 8D
[Now that he has his memories back, Jaune realizes he wasn't much of one either--at least--Ren took care of most of the group's food prep. Not that he HADN'T cooked before, it just hadn't been his thing. But, he still had John's memories and he did actually find something nice about cooking. He could understand why Ren liked to do it so much.
As soon as he was in the kitchen, Jaune started flipping through recipes. He had most ingredients out but he hadn't actually decided on what to make yet. He looked up at Mako's question.]
Uh...I guess I hadn't really thought about it. I mean, there's only a hand full of us who even have the app--so it's not like we can really use those other names much in public, whether they're our real names or not. [He considers it.]
Although, at least both of my names sound enough alike that it shouldn't cause too much of a problem and your name was the same, right? Except no last name?
[He eventually shrugged.]
Whatever is easier for you. You've only really known me as John, right? We can just keep using that. I don't really know how this works...but even if I'm Jaune Arc, I still have the memories of John Miles as well. It's been...really weird. For you too, I'm sure.
[The past few days had mostly been an attempt to sort between the two. Trying to figure out which parts of him were John and which were Jaune. It was...actually a lot harder than it sounded. Maybe he was both? Wasn't there a story back home about a person with two souls? He didn't think this was EXACTLY like that, but it felt pretty similar.]
On a slightly less messed up note, do you want a chocolate or strawberry cake?

[ the nice part about getting their memories back, if anything, is that they gained the skills that came with them. mako knows how to fight for real now, minus his firebending; he's also pleased to hear that he worked his way up to becoming a detective. at least in another life, he'd gotten his dream job. doesn't mean he'll settle...but it's comforting, at the very least.
and he won't say no to taste testing. ]
Yeah. I guess...I'm talking about what I should call you, if that makes sense. Not like it makes much of a difference. [ so...jaune is pronounced like john, huh? alright. mako just wanted to be sure. ] And yeah, my name's the same. We were never given a last name in my other life, so I'm just gonna keep it while we're here.
[ the merging of their two lives was...confusing, to say the least. ] Never thought I'd have an existential crisis...guess that was just wishful thinking.
[ likewise, mako's been thinking hard about what it meant to be the avatar. granted, he wasn't the avatar himself, but korra.
korra.
he'd been thinking a lot about bolin, too, and asami. but korra was an entirely different subject--one that he was hoping he wouldn't have to breach with anyone, really. it's complicated. and now that his memories are back...so are his feelings. ]
Chocolate's fine.

It makes sense...it's just, weird. It might be easier to use our names from this place...at least during the day.
[That way if they were overheard on somethings it at least wouldn't be weird to hear other names. It was probably going to get confusing regardless though. He pulls a bowl over and hesitates before starting.]
I've...tried sorting out some of this stuff on my own. But, you know, it might not hurt to talk about it. I mean, it's weird, cause I have all these memories of people like you, and Haruka, and even my own sister.
[He thinks back to the night of their Awakening. Of running into each of them on the field of battle and, even others, like Ciro, Adrian, and Michelle. It was just a lot to unpack because if he had two identities now then didn't they as well?]
So I feel like I know you all...I have known you for years...but then I really don't. At least, there's a whole other side of each of us that we don't know about. It's just weird! [He feels like he's rambling, or even worse, not making sense at all. He starts pouring out sugar to measure--better start baking to give this stress a purpose. After each ingredient is measured he puts it into a bowl, dry ingredients first. He smiles nervously though, looking back to Mako.]
But...I guess the same goes for you, you don't really know Jaune Arc either. But...I think we can still be friends. I mean, you came over here, so that has to be something. And I want us to be friends...we were pretty awesome that night.
...
Sorry, I really am rambling.

[ john and jaune... at least it's not like his brother's. yoshio and sakuma.
but then jaune starts talking about having a dual set of memories, and mako's brow furrows. it's true that it's been confusing and hard for him to distinguish between the two. he's frantically wondering about what had happened to bolin, but then he's also got yoshio to take care of--he's not used to worrying about two brothers at the same time-- ]
I know what you mean. I regained memories of another brother I had. His name was Bolin. And now that I've got two brothers to worry about? Things just don't feel...normal, on top of everything else.
[ it's unsettling, to say the least. though when jaune starts talking about them being friends, mako can't help but sigh and leans against the wall, looking straight at jaune. ]
Of course we can still be friends. Even though our memories are kind of screwing with us right now, that doesn't mean I'm gonna replace you or anyone else here with the friends from my other life. I don't know Jaune Arc, but I know John Miles.
[ he shakes his head. ] It's only gonna be weird if you make it that way.

[Still, the laugh is more of a burst, and while he goes back to smiling, it's a little sad. He had no idea if he'll see them again or his friends or anyone from back home. But, it doesn't do to dwell on things he can't change. No, his friends here are just as important as his friends and team back home. He decides that now.]
True. I'll have to keep that in mind. So...are you the oldest for both? Is Bolin anything like Sakuma?
no subject
I'm the oldest, yeah. But Bolin and Sakuma...they're not really alike. [ he shakes his head. ] Bolin's really outgoing, a huge talker. He likes to joke around, too. Yoshio's...more serious.
[ but he cares about them both. he can't put one before the other. it just doesn't work that way. ]

[He was older than two of his sisters, but otherwise he was the youngest and, sadly, only boy. He shakes his head. Harper is...strangely enough...kind of similar to some of them. But each of his sisters' is a little on the quirky side. He picks up on the name change and starts cracking eggs into the bowl before adding milk as well.]
How's Saku--Yoshino doing with all of this? Harper's...kind of changed a lot and I'm not really sure what to do about it. I guess there isn't a lot I CAN do...but still.
