[OPEN] FLOWER FESTIVAL

Who: Open Log (All)
Where: Point-à-Tarte
Summary: A festival of flowers.
Warnings: N/A

" Ah... the Festival of Flowers while a dreadful deadline looms! Enjoy what normal life you may have left...soon you may long for the return of these simpler times..."

A week of celebration (General Prompt)

At Point-à-Tarte, at the edge of the largest park in Eddan, booths that have been worked on for the past week are finally being opened to the public. Colorful banners decorate every single tree and and even the dullest of areas are covered up in the most creative of ways.

The booths themselves have everything one could hope in a flower festival, from mountains of flower crowns and necklaces being given to every resident of Eddan for free to the flower-shaped candy to the city-approved businesses touting the latest and greatest of the upcoming flower technology. New flowers, some supposedly glowing under UV light and others made to look like galaxies, are being sold at eye-popping prices.

The food, as always, is delicious and fresh, with early spring greens and even flowers themselves being added to salads. The only negative to the entire festival (if one can call it that) are the giant counters displaying the remaining time before sunset that serve as a reminder of Eddan's strange nature.

Opening Ceremonies (Special Prompt)

Sunday's opening sees the release of over ten thousand 'floating' seeds into the wind, a promise from the city to continue to make Eddan the greenest city in the entire world. Each person coming to the festival is given tulip bulbs in a variety of colors to be taken home.

The mayor takes time to speak about the recent string of murders and assures the people that they city shall continue to be vigilant to make sure that its citizens are kept safe. This is greeted with cheers from most of the population. Even the rainy weather doesn't keep such a happy day down!

An hour before sunset, the opening ceremonies close with a fireworks show. Due to the fact that they must be released only during the day, the explosive components have been changed as to give the night varieties a run for their money.

As the bright lights fill the sky, those soon-to-be-Awakened may have a flash of a memory from their past lives, such as a happy moment they spent with someone close to them or a moment of glory. This will soon be drowned out by ringing in their ears. For a few, brief seconds, they may notice figures close by glow oddly, their forms becoming distorted, but before they realize what has happened, blinking returns their vision to normal.

The headache, however, lingers until bedtime.

Weekly contest (week prompts)

Royal Mount opens its WonderWorld Park to the public on Monday. For its opening week during the festival, the rides are all free.

Green Valley Organizes a flower judging contest for the various schools on Wednesday. Students are asked to present their most beautiful and unique flowers. Flower arrangements are also judged and with prizes evaluated at over 20 000 Macca, the stakes are high!

Eastmount offers rides in flower-shaped carriages driven by mechanical horses that could almost pass off as the real thing. (Though it is only the latest technology, thus keeping the entire thing animal cruelty free!)

The Giant Float Parade on Friday afternoon travels around the vast forest of Point-à-Tarte. Each school has been encouraged to enter its cheerleaders and theater productions into the parade. The Flower King and Queen greet visitors at the very end, throwing little presents for the children.

The festival continues until Saturday Nightfall. The schools visit the festival in turn, sometimes for education courses about the various flowers and trees that dot Eddan's landscape, sometimes to show off flower and plant-based sculptures that the various clubs have worked hard on.

He smiles, despite the head ache...it had been a pretty good fireworks display. The memory hadn't been too bad either--although honestly aside from how freaky everything was getting his little visions hadn't been too bad. He'd heard some of the others hinting at worse things if nothing else, so perhaps he couldn't complain too much.

"Yeah, I thought so too. I bumped into a girl who seemed to be having some problems with the noise...so it made for an interesting evening I guess." He still kind of felt like a klutz for spilling his drink like that. And even though they'd discussed why she was familiar, he couldn't shake the notion that her red hair really reminded him a little too much of her.

"It's a shame that we can't have a proper show at night. I imagine the fireworks would be even better, but..." He sighs. Better to start wishing to have the moon while they were both at it since it'd never happen.

"Goodness, a problem with noise? You're not going to have a good time at a festival if that's the case." At least with Adrian's memory, it had been something good. Even though he couldn't remember the name of the man who'd mistakenly called him "Alucard."

John nods, "Yeah...but that's not going to happen any time soon. At least the parade later this week promises to be bigger than ever. I know some guys in the gardening club, so I got a sneak peak at some of the floats. It'll be interesting to see them completed."

He thinks about the girl, "She...seemed to be okay after awhile. I have to admit the noise started to get to me too. But I was able to go straight home and I felt better the next day." They were nearly at the roller coaster now and John could even see the entrance. "Oh, hey, the line isn't as bad as I thought it would be," he says.

I wonder if this roller coaster has pictures it takes of riders

"You're right. I thought it would be worse considering the free admission." Maybe they'd get to ride it twice! Really, nothing better at all. First, they'd have to be patient and ride it once.

"I guess we were all so excited when festival time arrives that by the time it's here, you almost feel overwhelmed." Perhaps that's why he felt a little wobbly after the fireworks? Their lives were full with so much study that having a break is almost like whiplash.

I say it does just so I can have this photo forever in john's room

"Well there are a lot of events all over the festival...maybe we just have good timing," John replies. He moves ahead to get in line, they still have a wait, but certainly not the one he'd been anticipating based on the talk of the town.

He leans against the rails that help keep the line looping around and not turning into a mass. He then looks over at Adrian, "That seems true. I know the cafe was pretty crazy in the days leading up to it...on top of everything else." Adrian would probably think he meant school work and exams, and while that was stressful it wasn't the only thing on his mind at the moment.

"Exceptionally good timing." Sometimes you just had good luck. Possibly in ten minutes this line would be ridiculous.

"Ah, that is right. Your family runs that place, don't they? Your parents probably don't let you do a lot since they need the help." Adrian would take writing two theses on top of constant on one's feet work.

indeed XD

John doesn't have good luck too often, so he's grateful for when things DO work out his way.

He nods at Adrian's question, "When we moved to the city my mom was determined to open a restaurant. The curfew makes it a little difficult to be everything she wants it to be--but we've managed pretty well I think." He doesn't see it as them making him though, it seems only right that he should help where he can. Besides, he gets pay for it just like the other employees and his mom is pretty understanding about his school work and having a social life. "I kinda like it...but I know I don't want to work there forever, I think that's why I'm trying to find the right major," he adds.

"Fortunately you do have a lot of time to decide on what you truly want to do. In the meantime, I'll have to stop by the cafe more. The food is good and it's a decent place to work on my papers."

Adrian had not expected to get along with John as well as he was. He felt quite pleased by this unexpected meeting. Not to mention trying a roller coaster!

"Oh, I don't think we have long to wait now. Except for all those poor souls who want to be in the front."

"Thanks," he always takes pride in the cafe, he grew up there after all and he knew how important it was to his mom. "I'm biased, but I think it has a pretty good atmosphere for that kind of thing too."

John hadn't expected this friendship either. He hated to admit it, but he'd been kind of intimidated by the graduate student at first. He just seemed so put together. But he was actually pretty nice and John felt pretty comfortable just hanging out with him.

"Yeah...I never really understood that. The only real difference if you get to see the drops coming I guess," John said, peering ahead to see just how much further they had. Adrian was right, they didn't have long at all. "I think some people think the front feels like it goes faster..."

"Or they like to scare themselves witless since they are in the front." Adrian reached in his pocket and pulled out a ponytail holder. He had a feeling he'd be asked to put his hair back anyway, since it could be a potential hazard on a roller coaster.

On taking it out of his pocket, one of his guitar pics fell on the ground. "John, can you get that for me, if you'd be so kind?" He has a lot of hair to tie back!

He'd been distracted watching the lines move. John turned back around when he heard Adrian ask him to pick up something. He looks down. A pic? "Oh! You play guitar? John couldn't think of any other reason there might be a pic in Adrian's pocket. He knelt down and picked it up. He didn't hand it over right away, as Adrian was still pulling back his hair and now the line was starting to move again.

Once they had moved forward a bit, John offered it back. "I know how to play a little," he admitted.
draculabackwards: (oh really?)

[personal profile] draculabackwards 2017-06-17 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
With his hair safely back, Adrian takes the pic and puts it back in his pocket.

"Do you? I have an electric guitar myself. I and a friend have an informal sort of band we have together. He plays the violin. We write a few songs, just pieces for both of us. Having a traditional guitar might be a welcome addition."

John nodded, "Yeah. I haven't really played since senior cycle, so I'm probably not that great." He'd mostly learned a few songs and chords, but hadn't taken it very far since music wasn't a passion of his necessarily. "Thanks...but I'm not sure if I have the spare time for a band. I'm in student council as well. So that, combined with my work at the cafe and then just normal school stuff takes up a lot."

The line moved again and John smiled, "Hey, looks like it'll be our turn soon."
