AWAKENING

Who: Everyone
When: Midnight, July 7th
Where: Green Valley School
What: It is time

THE CURTAIN FALLS

Earlier that day, the Navigators' message echo in the minds of Awakened and soon-to-be-Awakened alike. They are being hunted and they need to come together if they are to survive. They must get to the school at all costs...

Perhaps some might think back to horror movies, but for those who chose not to follow the warnings, a feeling of dread will begin to overtake them as the sun goes down until finally they hear an echoing annoyed sigh inside their head.

Seriously, this is not the time to kid around! You want others around you to die? Get going!

If they still chose not to go, they'll quickly find that their muscles are forced to act on their own and they make their way to the school as well with only an hour to spare. The target, a corridor in a wing of the school, is one of many and mostly empty at this time of year. Only a few people move between groups, casting a few confused whispers but ignoring them for the most part.

The phone's countdown continues to tick until the next day. It appears that Luci is still working on getting the network free of whatever is causing this problem for them in the first place, so all they have is the ability to speak to each other telepathically with the help of the Navigators...but perhaps they won't realize that the Navigators can hear everything that they think...and sometimes some thoughts might just leak out...

Whatever's causing this, they'll quickly realize once night falls that we're here. You guys better be prepared...this is it, lambs. Live free or die hard."

It's going to be a long hour inside the corridor.

THE SHADOWS RISE

At exactly 24 hours left to spare on their phone's countdown, all of the lights in the school go out. Anyone who is not Awakened becomes stone statues, unmoving, while the area around them begins to shift and change. The windows shrink to sizes impossible for a human to pass through, cracking as dark mist fills the area around them.

If they walk into the mist, they'll quickly find that they reappear at the end of the corridor, essentially stuck in a loop in a particular area of the school.

They move fast. Looks like they've already trapped you in here...

There’s a terrifying sound of scuttling feet, of a thousand legs moving in the corridors, in the pipes, in the walls and in the ground, as the tiles part like water before they rise above it. In this state, the world doesn't seem to play by the rules, and without the application to give them data, it's impossible to see what's going on...at least until the Shadows reveal themselves.

They look like giant rats, nearly half the size of a full grown human, they are unlike anything they fought before.

I ̧s͢ee ͡you. ̡Í ͢see ̢y͞ơu̕ a̧l̛l̷...̢h̡eh ̵he͞h͠ H͘AHA҉H̨AHA̵HAHA!̨

As their eyes glow in the dark, mist pours from their bodies constantly, causing the area around them to shift and move . The wallpaper begins to move, the portraits on the walls become corpses, and the lockers begin to grow metal teeth, attempting to pull them inside. The ceiling rises until it's impossible to see. If they are pulled in, they will find themselves thrown out in another part of the corridor, from the ceiling to the ground, or out of a portrait into the other wall - anything to give them significant damage. The school is like a giant, living entity that wants them to die...

Awakened will find themselves in their changed clothes, their magical skills and Persona at their fingertips once more.

However, the Shadows’ targets seem to be the Navigators first...Awakened or not, it does not seem to matter. The Shadows will not ignore Combatants should they chose to fight them, but the rats move towards the Navigators and school's lockers will try to grab them to keep them inside. It seems whatever is after them wishes to destroy the only advantage the group has in battle.

When the Shadows speak, they echo together.

W͏h̸y fi̶gh̵t̸?̴ ͡I͢gno͟r̵ąnce͏ i͠s͢ b̷lis̨s.̷.͞.͝so͏o̶n ̶de̢at͝h w͘ill͝ e̶n͏ve͞l͏ope̕ ̶you͘.̸ Do̡ņ'̕t ͘str̵u̢ģg̨l҉e̡.

And the Combatants will soon learn how difficult it is to fight these pests.

[OOC: For this prompt, the Awakened will have access to their skills, and the Unawakened will need to be helped out. Additional notes can be found in the OOC part below]
AWAKENING

Even the Awakened can't continue this fight alone. They've already had many of their numbers disappear lately...they need reinforcements. With the Shadows giving them so much trouble, help is needed.

And so, a voice echoes inside the Combatants. Their hearts begin to glow, and the rats hiss backwards from the light. A voice will echo inside of their head...

The time is now. I am thou, thou art I! Your mind is trapped, but I can set your soul free! My other self, will you die, or fight back?

Accept me for who I am! Forge this contract by letting go of your fears! Revolt against this world, and TEAR OUT YOUR HEART!

The Navigators, on the other hand...their inner voice is softer. There is knowledge, and they'll need to stay calm if they are to control this chaotic battlefield.

The time is now. I am thou, thou art I! Your mind is trapped, but I can set your soul free! My other self, your soul already knows part the truth.

My other self, shall we show them what it means to cross us? Let us finish forging this contract by letting go of your fears! Revolt against this world, and TEAR OUT YOUR HEART!

The shadow rats scream together in anger.

No! NO NO NO NO ! You're not supposed to Awaken! Stay asleep! You aren't
supposed to awaken! STOP IT! STOP THEM! K̢I͏L͡L!͜ CR̨US̡H҉! ͘D͘ESTR̛OY͘!

The beasts' forms become more chaotic - additional legs on some rats, larger heads and tails on others, gigantic teeth on some, and they begin to match the pattern of the corridor - there's no guessing at what they can do.

Good thing you've got a few of you who can help out with that…

You've only got one shot at this! If you get it angry enough, it will show us its true form instead of this vermin bullshit!

Luci doesn't sound happy.

OOC
Everyone is able to speak to each together thanks to the Navigator's telepathic abilities (but always keep in mind that any Navigator can hear you even if you try to speak to just someone else).

For now, characters can only use single spells. The boss battle will unlock the teaming up skills.

The lockers that grab a character will throw them out as mentioned in the prompts and will additionally deal DARK damage and may confuse users, causing them to see other users as the enemy. They will need to be healed by any of the dispell spells to cure them.

The Rat Shadows only have 1 HP and attack with physical spells which can poison about 1/4 times (or more if you want to poison your character), HOWEVER they will be constantly going from Fire, Ice, Wind, Electrical, Nuclear, Psy, Dark, Light, Physical and Gun in that order, and switch constantly as to not be hit.

Only Navigators will know when the time to hit them is correct for your character, so make sure to aid them as much as possible! Navigators have also been given additional data regarding how the Shadow rats move and what spells can cause one hit-Kos or what spells can be used against them, so when it doubt, tag it out and see if it hits! There are over a thousand of them, and, as mentioned in the prompts, the school itself is also alive, so feel free to make this as terrifying for your characters as you wish.

An OOC PLANNING POST can be used to ask questions or to form teams.

The tourniquet had proven to be quite effective, Heiji successfully stopped the bleeding, at least until he could seek proper attention for his wound. The deep cut on his palm was still exposed, however, and susceptible to infection. (Dia would have proved useful here, but Heiji still hadn't come to term with being a navigator, or the fact that he had access to spells.) The magic that was capable of dealing with this level of insanity, and yet Heiji had refused it all.

Luckily, or perhaps unluckily, Ran fell into sight. At first, Heiji was met with a feeling of relief, but at the same time, he grew more anxious. Nothing about this school was safe, she wasn't safe. Of course, his feelings for her still ran deep (in random spurts), but that was to be addressed when they weren't in danger of being killed.

"Ran!"

Whether she noticed his call in time, or not, Heiji had already closed in on her. The teen subtly glanced her over, looking for any wounds that may have been inflicted upon her. The detective hoped she was unscathed.

Zepar's sword swept downward like the blade of a guillotine, cleaving through a rat, metal ringing off the floor beneath and shattering the tile in a small explosion of fragments. Ran's eyes whisked over her shoulder at the sound of her name, eyes gleaming a brief gold beyond the darkness of her visor. She barely had time to react, to try to think what she wanted to do; in a moment he was there, closing in on her, his eyes flickering over her.

"Ha--"

But she cut herself off, the two names tangling on her tongue. Harley. Hattori. Neither one of them seemed right, and she bit the inside of her cheek, for the moment glad for the concealment of the visor over her eyes.

"I-It's okay. I'm okay."

Not completely true. She was covered with scratches and scrapes on what skin was visible, and something that looked very much like teeth marks digging deep into her shoulder, half-dried blood oozing down her arm. A bruise was purpling slowly onto one cheek, and if he'd noticed her moving a moment before, she was limping slightly.

Heiji still wielded his katate-uchi, the weapon that came with his status as a navigator. It wasn't quite the weapon he was used to since kendo used full-sized weapons, but it managed to get the job done. Not to mention Heiji was familiar with what weapon it was and how it was used. Although he was still learning how to use it appropriately.

Ran may have claimed she was okay, but her physical cues said otherwise. There was no way Kudo would have been comfortable with this, and deep down Heiji really wasn't either. His feelings for her surfaced momentarily before fading into something more familiar.

"But yer hurt." Granted her injuries were nothing serious, and for the most part manageable, but that didn't make it okay, either. Heiji still hadn't located Kudo since they got here. He would have to find him without burdening Ran, too. "And we're still not in the clear."

Her fingers slipped up to the bite on her shoulder as though remembering it was there. "It's . . . okay. It's not as bad as it looks."

Not quite true either. It hurt a fair amount now that she was allowing herself to think about it, and the edges of the wound were swelling and red beyond the half-dried blood. It wasn't life-threatening, though, and at least to her, it was one of those things that seemed like it could wait to be dealt with until later. There were other things to be focused on.

Her eyebrows knit in worry. "Where's Conan-kun? I haven't seen him at all."

He's smart and resourceful, but too small. Only seven. Some of these rats were nearly as big as he was.

And then she caught sight of the tourniquet. She knew enough first aid to know that no one used those unless there was a threat of significant blood loss. Her hand darted out to catch his wrist. "Mou, you're hurt."
osakanpride: (Realization; oh yeah)

[personal profile] osakanpride 2017-07-17 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh right...Conan. Heiji honestly hadn't seen his friend around since they arrived at school. Having accidentally been separated amidst the danger of the oversized rats. With their memories regained, Heiji wasn't quite as worried about "Conan" as Ran was. However; he couldn't outright dismiss it either, with the facade and all.

"We'll find him." Was all he had to say on the matter, and Heiji was set to reunite with Kudo again.

"Oh this?" He chuckled nervously, only because it was as bad as it looked, but he had managed to deal with it appropriately until they could resolve whatever it was that was happening at the school. "It's the least of our concerns." Really, it was.

"The lockers are rapid, avoid them." That's how he recievied it in the first place. They were trying to capture him.

"It's not the 'least of our concerns.'" Ran's eyes might be partially concealed, but he's close enough right now to be able to tell that she's glaring at him. "Just--"

She cuts herself off, reaching for the spell lingering in the back of her mind. She's not used to doing this, but it's there -- she can tell it's there -- and as surely as however she knows her Persona's name, she knows what it can do. Reaching for it is instinct, and necessity.

"Dia." The word is a murmur, and the hand holding Heiji's grows warm, the warmth seeping into his skin in turn like the heat from a fire seeping in on a cold night. Likely he'll be able to feel the effect -- muscle and skin knitting back together. Pain, swelling, and redness fade until the gash is only a shallow cut, scabbed over and healing.
osakanpride: (Determined; Tell me everything)

1/? Here we go, huff!

[personal profile] osakanpride 2017-07-23 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Again, like always, the girls (or just Ran in this case) were too heavily focused on injuries and safety. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but Heiji (also like always) had a different list of priorities that clearly differed from her own. The detective was about to speak up until the throbbing pain from his palm suddenly faded.
osakanpride: (Confused; ehhh)

[personal profile] osakanpride 2017-07-23 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Heiji retracted his hand from her hold to analyze the result of her meddling. Low and behold the deep cut that marked his hand was all but a distant memory. The recovery process clearly several days ahead of its time.

osakanpride: (Annoyed; at this)

[personal profile] osakanpride 2017-07-23 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The recovery for this was both too quick and too perfect, and this impossible. Heiji stubborn (while carefully wielding his short blade) dragged his index finger from his opposing hand over the healed wound. The deep cut absent in place of scab.

This was impossible.

osakanpride: (Annoyed; dumb answer)

HAHAHAHA

[personal profile] osakanpride 2017-07-23 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
How?

This was never something Ran could do before, so it must have been a product of the current situation. At the back of his mind, the detective knew he understood the method in which this was performed because he had this spell, too. However, the detective had outright denied its possibility for its fictitious nature alone.

Reaching out with his recovered hand, Heiji performed a small experiment to try and discredit what actually happened. If he himself couldn't do it, it had to have been some logical fallacy.

"Dia," Ran, too, would find her wounds mended in varying degrees depending on the severity of them. The noticeable shallow scratches on her arms were gone altogether. Only cementing this very impossibility that Heiji refused to believe.

LAST ONE!

[personal profile] osakanpride 2017-07-23 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The confliction he was experiencing internally was reflected in his disgruntled expression of trying to process everything that just happened in the last few minutes.

How was he going to explain this to Kudo?
singlefaith: (shy smile)

[personal profile] singlefaith 2017-07-25 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ran herself wasn't at ease with all that was going on, but her mind had always yielded more readily to the inexplicable than Heiji's or Shinichi's. In the world of the detectives, everything had a solid, concrete, and logical explanation. In Ran's . . . there was still room for magic and mystery.

Plus, at the end of all things, with everything that had happened leading up to this point, being able to heal was the least and most benign. And with everything going on around them . . . it was necessary. Even vital.

None of this stopped Ran's soft note of wonder in turn as she turned her arms to find her cuts gone, or as she tested her shoulder and ankle to find them improved. "Thank you," she breathes. A touch to her cheek reveals that the bruise, too, is gone.

She catches the disgruntled look on his face then, and in spite of everything, can't help but smile. (It'd be a laugh in any other situation.) "It's not exactly the worst thing, is it?"
osakanpride: (Annoyed; Damn you)

[personal profile] osakanpride 2017-07-26 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it wasn't the worst thing that could have occurred, but their long list of everything that has didn't discredit this any less than the others. Heiji was constantly buzzing with different thoughts and none of them yielded anything indisputable.

He'll just have to worry about it later. The situation was still unsafe and they hadn't located Kudo either. Clever as he may be, he was still limited to the prowess of a child.

"Have ya seen anyone else?"
singlefaith: (drawn)

[personal profile] singlefaith 2017-08-06 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
A quick, tight shake of the head. She's seen others, yes, but not too many that she knows. "Not really."

At least she knows Heiji is safe, but Conan is now a main priority. "Help me find Conan-kun?"
