AWAKENING
Who: Everyone
When: Midnight, July 7th
Where: Green Valley School
What: It is time

Earlier that day, the Navigators' message echo in the minds of Awakened and soon-to-be-Awakened alike. They are being hunted and they need to come together if they are to survive. They must get to the school at all costs...
Perhaps some might think back to horror movies, but for those who chose not to follow the warnings, a feeling of dread will begin to overtake them as the sun goes down until finally they hear an echoing annoyed sigh inside their head.
Seriously, this is not the time to kid around! You want others around you to die? Get going!
If they still chose not to go, they'll quickly find that their muscles are forced to act on their own and they make their way to the school as well with only an hour to spare. The target, a corridor in a wing of the school, is one of many and mostly empty at this time of year. Only a few people move between groups, casting a few confused whispers but ignoring them for the most part.
The phone's countdown continues to tick until the next day. It appears that Luci is still working on getting the network free of whatever is causing this problem for them in the first place, so all they have is the ability to speak to each other telepathically with the help of the Navigators...but perhaps they won't realize that the Navigators can hear everything that they think...and sometimes some thoughts might just leak out...
Whatever's causing this, they'll quickly realize once night falls that we're here. You guys better be prepared...this is it, lambs. Live free or die hard."
It's going to be a long hour inside the corridor.

At exactly 24 hours left to spare on their phone's countdown, all of the lights in the school go out. Anyone who is not Awakened becomes stone statues, unmoving, while the area around them begins to shift and change. The windows shrink to sizes impossible for a human to pass through, cracking as dark mist fills the area around them.
If they walk into the mist, they'll quickly find that they reappear at the end of the corridor, essentially stuck in a loop in a particular area of the school.
They move fast. Looks like they've already trapped you in here...
There’s a terrifying sound of scuttling feet, of a thousand legs moving in the corridors, in the pipes, in the walls and in the ground, as the tiles part like water before they rise above it. In this state, the world doesn't seem to play by the rules, and without the application to give them data, it's impossible to see what's going on...at least until the Shadows reveal themselves.
They look like giant rats, nearly half the size of a full grown human, they are unlike anything they fought before.
As their eyes glow in the dark, mist pours from their bodies constantly, causing the area around them to shift and move . The wallpaper begins to move, the portraits on the walls become corpses, and the lockers begin to grow metal teeth, attempting to pull them inside. The ceiling rises until it's impossible to see. If they are pulled in, they will find themselves thrown out in another part of the corridor, from the ceiling to the ground, or out of a portrait into the other wall - anything to give them significant damage. The school is like a giant, living entity that wants them to die...
Awakened will find themselves in their changed clothes, their magical skills and Persona at their fingertips once more.
However, the Shadows’ targets seem to be the Navigators first...Awakened or not, it does not seem to matter. The Shadows will not ignore Combatants should they chose to fight them, but the rats move towards the Navigators and school's lockers will try to grab them to keep them inside. It seems whatever is after them wishes to destroy the only advantage the group has in battle.
When the Shadows speak, they echo together.
And the Combatants will soon learn how difficult it is to fight these pests.
[OOC: For this prompt, the Awakened will have access to their skills, and the Unawakened will need to be helped out. Additional notes can be found in the OOC part below]

Even the Awakened can't continue this fight alone. They've already had many of their numbers disappear lately...they need reinforcements. With the Shadows giving them so much trouble, help is needed.
And so, a voice echoes inside the Combatants. Their hearts begin to glow, and the rats hiss backwards from the light. A voice will echo inside of their head...
The Navigators, on the other hand...their inner voice is softer. There is knowledge, and they'll need to stay calm if they are to control this chaotic battlefield.
The shadow rats scream together in anger.
The beasts' forms become more chaotic - additional legs on some rats, larger heads and tails on others, gigantic teeth on some, and they begin to match the pattern of the corridor - there's no guessing at what they can do.
Good thing you've got a few of you who can help out with that…
You've only got one shot at this! If you get it angry enough, it will show us its true form instead of this vermin bullshit!
Luci doesn't sound happy.

And so, a voice echoes inside the Combatants. Their hearts begin to glow, and the rats hiss backwards from the light. A voice will echo inside of their head...

OOC
Everyone is able to speak to each together thanks to the Navigator's telepathic abilities (but always keep in mind that any Navigator can hear you even if you try to speak to just someone else).
For now, characters can only use single spells. The boss battle will unlock the teaming up skills.
The lockers that grab a character will throw them out as mentioned in the prompts and will additionally deal DARK damage and may confuse users, causing them to see other users as the enemy. They will need to be healed by any of the dispell spells to cure them.
The Rat Shadows only have 1 HP and attack with physical spells which can poison about 1/4 times (or more if you want to poison your character), HOWEVER they will be constantly going from Fire, Ice, Wind, Electrical, Nuclear, Psy, Dark, Light, Physical and Gun in that order, and switch constantly as to not be hit.
Only Navigators will know when the time to hit them is correct for your character, so make sure to aid them as much as possible! Navigators have also been given additional data regarding how the Shadow rats move and what spells can cause one hit-Kos or what spells can be used against them, so when it doubt, tag it out and see if it hits! There are over a thousand of them, and, as mentioned in the prompts, the school itself is also alive, so feel free to make this as terrifying for your characters as you wish.
An OOC PLANNING POST can be used to ask questions or to form teams.

She's tried to tell herself it's nothing. As she told herself with Ciro, everyone had days, and neither one of them attested to anything wrong when asked. She's oversensitive lately; her mother came home far too late (and far too tipsy) a couple of nights ago, setting off an argument in the wee hours of the morning that speared through the floor. That's got her riled up. Probably it's her. Probably she's the one who's off. She does her best to ignore it, pushing it away and trying to go about her tasks. She's watering the flowers in the shop when the voice sounds in her head.
Everyone! We are being hunted, and if we're to survive we need to band together. Get to the school!
She nearly yelps with surprise at the clarity of it; she's alone in the shop. Blue eyes whisk towards the window, trying to see if there's anyone outside.
(Though she already knows it didn't come from there.)
The dread begins immediately: Something's wrong. Really wrong. It chews away inside her stomach, acidic and impossible to ignore.
Her fingers slip to her phone in her apron pocket, tightening around it. She wants to call Harley, wants to hear his voice. But desperately she's trying to talk herself out of it.
Go to the school. The words are an imprint on her brain, the anxiety still gnawing through her gut. She doesn't want to go.
B. The Shadows Rise (Part 1) - They move fast. Looks like they've already trapped you in here...
Being trapped in the corridor for so long was unnerving enough. The lights going out was worse.
And then the scratching, scurrying . . . it tingles at the edges of Ran's nerves, sends a sharp twist through her chest. It's all around them, everywhere -- in the hallway, in the pipes, in the walls . . . Her hands dart towards her ears, the panic yanking up through her throat -- though her palms don't clamp down, just as afraid of not hearing as she is of hearing.
And then the room twists.
Reality twists. The tiles part.
And there they are. Rats. Thousands of rats, too impossibly many to count. Ran's eyes are enormous, pale. No muscle in her body seems to work. She can't move. Later, she won't even be able to remember if she screamed.
C. The Shadows Rise (Part 2) - It's the people around her that jolt her into action. The shouts and the cries and struggles of those around her jolt her into movement even before her brain has quite caught up with it. She doesn't think, she can't think; she dives in without considering. Hands and feet lash out, strike into anything she can manage, do whatever can be done to keep rats from tearing into others.
But she's not Awakened; she has no abilities of her own, and her karate remains buried in the recesses of her mind. Rat teeth and claws slice into her flesh; rat bodies collide into her, knock her to the floor. She's Unawakened, and she needs help.
D. Awakening - She's battered and bleeding. They're still coming, unyielding, unending. The corridor is a nightmare of corpses grinning from portraits, from the yawning, black maws of the lockers, from a sea of glowing rat eyes. It's not going to stop. Her mind undulates in a silent, unreleased scream.
Accept me for who I am! Forge this contract by letting go of your fears! Revolt against this world, and TEAR OUT YOUR HEART!
Her heart is glowing in her chest. It feels like fire, hot and searing. Her hand moves towards it; without thought, it plunges in.
Her shriek rips free of her throat. It hurts worse than anything she's ever felt -- like she's tearing herself free of her own body with the movement, muscle fibers and skin and veins snapping and popping in the wake. She's not sure she'll ever stop screaming; the sound consumes her mind and her being in one single, wild note that ripples through her frame.
And then, suddenly, the world goes dark. Silent. She feels her body slump. Feels herself strike the tile. But the world is suddenly far, far away, and she's not a part of it.
Is she dead?
Yes?
No.
The memories trickle, then surge. Murders. Blood. A boy with a mischievous smile, pulling a cold soda away from her cheek. The feel of her muscles, practiced and confident, the strike of a foot snapping through the blade of a knife. Her mother's face, its honed intelligence plain. Her father grasping her shoulders, impossibly breaking down into a sob to find her unharmed. A small girl in her arms, gunshots biting into the pavement around their bodies.
Blue, blue eyes staring into hers, fingers tight around her arm, trying to make her see something, trying to make her understand.
Her heart thuds.
She gasps once like a drowning woman coming up for air, and glows. Her clothing melts away, shifting towards armor, towards long ribbons, towards a dark visor that arches over her eyes. Energy surges through her; for a moment nothing aches or hurts. She could do anything. Conquer anything.
There's a woman standing before her, impossibly tall, in a long, deep red gown and breastplate, her shoulders down to her hands webbed in red threads and white wings jutting from her back. She's blindfolded, and her hands fold calmly over the handle of a long sword whose length reaches all the way down to her feet. A jeweled eye watches impassively from the blade. She waits as though she has all the time in the world.
Her name is already known.
"Zepar . . ." Ran pushes herself slowly back to her feet. Her eyes flicker back towards the rats just outside her circle of light, and she presses her lips together, feet bracing. She can do this. She can move.
"Okay. Let's go."
She has people she has to find, and she's not completely aware of her abilities, but she'll do anything she can for anyone she runs across. She'll have to work it out as she goes.
E. Wildcard - Interested in something else? Message me or give me a poke on
Wildcard!
Luckily, or perhaps unluckily, Ran fell into sight. At first, Heiji was met with a feeling of relief, but at the same time, he grew more anxious. Nothing about this school was safe, she wasn't safe. Of course, his feelings for her still ran deep (in random spurts), but that was to be addressed when they weren't in danger of being killed.
"Ran!"
Whether she noticed his call in time, or not, Heiji had already closed in on her. The teen subtly glanced her over, looking for any wounds that may have been inflicted upon her. The detective hoped she was unscathed.
no subject
"Ha--"
But she cut herself off, the two names tangling on her tongue. Harley. Hattori. Neither one of them seemed right, and she bit the inside of her cheek, for the moment glad for the concealment of the visor over her eyes.
"I-It's okay. I'm okay."
Not completely true. She was covered with scratches and scrapes on what skin was visible, and something that looked very much like teeth marks digging deep into her shoulder, half-dried blood oozing down her arm. A bruise was purpling slowly onto one cheek, and if he'd noticed her moving a moment before, she was limping slightly.
no subject
Ran may have claimed she was okay, but her physical cues said otherwise. There was no way Kudo would have been comfortable with this, and deep down Heiji really wasn't either. His feelings for her surfaced momentarily before fading into something more familiar.
"But yer hurt." Granted her injuries were nothing serious, and for the most part manageable, but that didn't make it okay, either. Heiji still hadn't located Kudo since they got here. He would have to find him without burdening Ran, too. "And we're still not in the clear."
no subject
Not quite true either. It hurt a fair amount now that she was allowing herself to think about it, and the edges of the wound were swelling and red beyond the half-dried blood. It wasn't life-threatening, though, and at least to her, it was one of those things that seemed like it could wait to be dealt with until later. There were other things to be focused on.
Her eyebrows knit in worry. "Where's Conan-kun? I haven't seen him at all."
He's smart and resourceful, but too small. Only seven. Some of these rats were nearly as big as he was.
And then she caught sight of the tourniquet. She knew enough first aid to know that no one used those unless there was a threat of significant blood loss. Her hand darted out to catch his wrist. "Mou, you're hurt."
no subject
"We'll find him." Was all he had to say on the matter, and Heiji was set to reunite with Kudo again.
"Oh this?" He chuckled nervously, only because it was as bad as it looked, but he had managed to deal with it appropriately until they could resolve whatever it was that was happening at the school. "It's the least of our concerns." Really, it was.
"The lockers are rapid, avoid them." That's how he recievied it in the first place. They were trying to capture him.
no subject
She cuts herself off, reaching for the spell lingering in the back of her mind. She's not used to doing this, but it's there -- she can tell it's there -- and as surely as however she knows her Persona's name, she knows what it can do. Reaching for it is instinct, and necessity.
"Dia." The word is a murmur, and the hand holding Heiji's grows warm, the warmth seeping into his skin in turn like the heat from a fire seeping in on a cold night. Likely he'll be able to feel the effect -- muscle and skin knitting back together. Pain, swelling, and redness fade until the gash is only a shallow cut, scabbed over and healing.

Even though she'd just looked at the window, a knock against the glass should draw her attention back to see "Ciro" standing there with a bag slung over his shoulders and his shoulders hunched up. He doesn't want to be doing fetch quests, but it's sort of necessary. In fact, it's highly necessary given the circumstances.
no subject
She's not sure who she expected to see, but she's relieved to see Ciro. The tension visibly seeps out of her shoulders, and immediately she feels silly. Tugging up a smile, she waves him inward. He doesn't have to knock, of course. He works here; he can come in.
(Is he supposed to work today? She can't remember.)
no subject
His gaze focuses right on her. There's no point in beating around the bush. "Didn't you hear the warning? We need to get going."
no subject
She heard him, just. It feels like a sudden crack in reality.

"....You've been on the app, haven't you? But the countdown won't be able to finish like it should..."
no subject
She can't help a little fire creeping into her voice. "Everyone says 'wait and see' or 'wait and find out.' But someone needs to do some kind of explaining, and soon."
She's regained the step she lost a moment before. "I'm not going anywhere without knowing something."

C
From his shadow an armored knight on horseback erupts into being. The knight is clad in red and gold armor, which would be imposing enough if not for the fact that she is 7 feet tall. The armor is stylized so that the helmet appears to have rabbit-like ears and completely covers her face--the slits where her eyes should be visible are only red lights. The horse is just as terrifying, with folded wings and skeletal features apparent even beneath it's red and gold armor. She points her lance at the rats and Jaune commands the next spell, "Kouha!"
Light shoots from the tip of her lance and pierces several of the rats. Jaune rushes in from behind and cuts down the others with his broad sword, slamming his shield down so that any other rats coming in will be blocked for the time being. After the initial summon, the persona fades back into his shadow.
"Are you all right?"
no subject
The look she gives Jaune is a little dazed, scattered . . . even a little wild as her eyes flash up to him. The rats had gotten her off her feet again; she's on the tile again in the corridor -- probably the worst position for a fight. She'd landed a solid kick to one's head that sent it squeaking back, but in a moment it had redoubled with reinforcements when Jaune had intervened. Her mind is still anticipating the feeling of teeth tearing into her flesh.
She gives a somewhat wobbly nod, pushing herself towards her feet with the help of the wall. "T-Thank you." He's that boy from a cafe she goes to sometimes, isn't he? It takes a moment to place him.
(How many people does she know that have other lives like this? Who were on that app?)
"They just keep coming . . . How do we make them stop?"
no subject
Now that he's closer, he realizes he had seen her before after all. Mostly at the cafe, but he was fairly certain she was a grade below him or something like that. "Normally I'd suggest fighting them off...but there seem to be a lot more this time and it is also a lot trickier too." There were the lockers to consider, not to mention the smaller space and just the fact that the Shadows were gearing more for the unAwakened and the Navigators. Things were definitely messier than last time.
no subject
. . . What exactly had he done? That figure on the horse, coming from his shadow . . .
She wants to ask, but it doesn't feel like the right moment. "We'll slow you down," she finishes, eyebrows knitting. "We shouldn't be here."
no subject
"We just have to buy time. You guys will be more helpful if we can just keep you alive. You're here for a reason," Jaune said. It was going to be difficult, there was no denying that, but Jaune wasn't about to see anyone die if he could help it--not again.
D Awakening
And even though he knew she could take care of herself, he needed to see her. To make sure she was alright. Even apart from the rats, this whole place nore far too strong a resemblance to a haunted house. Ran had never liked those.
He limps slightly as he moves in search of her. He'd gotten caught by the lockers once, when he was still Conan, and not all of the rats had been successfully driven away by his soccerball.
But all of that goes away when he sees her. With a rat coming up behind her. He was too far away. He starts running, but he knows he'll never make it in time. In his panic, he inadvertently activates one of the spells that had been sitting at the back of his head.
And the rat explodes, taking out any shadows near it.
no subject
For a moment she could only stare at it in blank shock.
She didn't have that luxury for long, though. With more rats on the way, she put her newfound strength (and apparently speed) to good use, decimating small hordes of them between her strikes and Zepar's sword.
But speed and strength aren't everything, and Ran's attention can't be everywhere at once. She senses the rat launching itself behind her and whirls -- though knows immediately she's going to be too late, bracing herself for teeth and claws, forearms yanking up to protect her face.
Instead, the rat explodes. And in a chain reaction, takes out at least three more with it. Ran yelps from the sheer surprise of it, turning her face aside as the rats dissipate into dark mist.
What--?
Her eyes dart for a source, scattering over anything nearby . . . and land on the man in the dark, heavy cloak. The fine hairs prickle at the back of her neck -- everything prickles, as though with a sudden electric charge.
Had this come from him . . . ?
no subject
He didn't have a voice changer.
Ran knew him, better than anyone else. He had no doubt that she would recognize his voice if he said anything. And from the way she was moving, he was sure she had her memories back.
He freezes as he tries to think of what to do next.
And then there was the matter of what had just happened. That... It could not have been magic. That was impossible. Magic was a hoax. And it definitely wasn't something he could do. There had to be a logical explanation. One that he would figure out.
Later. When the majority wasn't taken up with panicking over how to protect his identity.
no subject
(That design . . . it's just a little similar, isn't it, to something she's seen before?)
No time to register that thought fully, though. There's a rat that's somehow managed to get up on top of the lockers scurrying in from the shadows, and it vaults itself toward the boy who'd just helped her.
No thought. She yanks the spell from the back of her mind. "Agi!"
The rat shrieks as it bursts into flame, the force of the spell knocking it out of the air and away from her helper.
no subject
And this was all happening too fast. He didn't have time to investigate every new problem, because just as he got a handle on one, some new impossibility would occur.
He still didn't even understand how it was possible for him to be here like this. Without an antidote.
And Ran was right there, and he still couldn't speak to her with his own voice. He knew she would recognize him if he said anything. He ducks away from the attacking rat, and tries to figure out what he could do now.
no subject
"Just . . . stay close, okay?" Her own back brushes against his arm and shoulder, her attention on the rats. Though the words are steady, he's likely practiced enough, knows her well enough, to hear the narrow thread of fear darting through it. This is nothing Ran is ready to handle either; she's doing the best she can in a situation that's overwhelming.
The rat circle tightens slowly, eyes gleaming in the dark.
