and you said you'd always have my back
Who: Kouyuki Jin (Shirou Fubuki) and "Michi Yamashita" (Yuuto Kidou)
When: June 13th
Where: The site of a recent "accident" ruled by authorities to have been a devastating house fire in Green Valley
What: Worried about his brother's recent behavioral changes, Kouyuki convinces "Michi" to go investigate the rumor of a ghost in Green Valley with him in hopes of being able to get him to open up.
[Only one week had passed since reports of a small family perishing in a house fire had lit up the news. Ruled an "accident" by authorities, most people had briefly mourned their neighbors or, if they hadn't known them well, had quickly moved on. However, there were those in Eddan, particularly the students belonging to Green Valley's Detective club, who thought to look a little deeper into the incident.
Two days ago while eating lunch in the cafeteria, Kouyuki had overheard a small group of students talking amongst themselves. Much of what they'd been discussing was benign; club signups, team meetings, an upcoming lab in science they wanted to do as a paired assignment instead of as a group. And then there'd been mention of someone having seen the ghost of a "screaming woman" in the window of a home in Green Valley.
Ghosts weren't real, of course. Or at least, Kouyuki didn't put much stock into their existence. But between the murders, resulting city-wide curfew, and the surfacing of peculiar rumors reminiscent of old urban legends, it was almost impossible not to look deeper into things.
And then there was Michi's behavior on top of everything else...
Kouyuki had noticed the first change a couple of weeks before the night of the fire. At first, he'd thought his brother was just going through a bit of a rough time, that he might be worried about exams or that maybe someone was picking on him. But whatever the problem was, Michi never came to him about it like he used to. They had gone from sharing everything with each other to, the day after the fire, sharing next to nothing at all. Michi's appearance at track and field practice went from flawless to sporadic, and from sporadic to simply...not showing up for practice at all. Even at home the time they'd usually spend together was spent apart, with Kouyuki left standing on the opposite side of a closed door, effectively shut out of whatever his brother was going through.
What was going on? Why wouldn't Michi talk to him about it? It wasn't as though Michi had stopped trying altogether, or stopped caring. They were still on speaking terms, and Michi still helped him with his assignments when he needed it. Whatever was wrong, Michi didn't seem upset with him, but there was something unmistakably...different. He was distracted and at the same time seemed like he was focused on something else far, far away.
The mystery of the "ghost" couldn't have fallen into their laps at a better time, and with Michi a new member of the Detective club, Kouyuki had every reason to drag his brother out to investigate. Only, the ghost wasn't the only thing Kouyuki was investigating today. With just the two of them on this case, they'd have plenty of time to talk. And with any luck, and considering the fact that Michi didn't put up a fuss about coming with him, he might actually make some progress...
As they turned onto the right block, the house they'd be snooping around came creeping slowly into view.]
I heard that if you light a match near the house, you'll hear a ghost scream.
[While he didn't sound convinced that this would work, he nevertheless produced a small packet of matches from his pocket. Likely something he'd lifted from the house without his aunt and uncle knowing.]
