Whoever made that app did things with it that Asher can't even begin to imagine how to program, so if that's related to the murders then he can't help wondering how much good it would do even if he had backup, and he wouldn't want to put Gen in danger even if he's really sure the other could protect himself easily under normal circumstances. It's only the thought that having Gen's number wouldn't be a bad thing in general that means he replies with a hesitant nod.
