[Kit's morning had been busy with a short shift at the botanical garden where he'd spent a handful of hours tidying up a terribly disorganized supply room, tending to neglected flowerbeds, and filling in as a guide for another employee who had been a no-show. Most of the visitors enjoyed his trivia, but the children were more difficult to please. Kit had been forced to resort to silly anecdotes that were followed by questions to test how well they'd been paying attention. For every question answered correctly, the children were offered packets of seeds as a reward and encouraged to take them home and start their own gardens.

In times such as those it was almost easy to forget his roots. He wasn't treated as an ex-thief or delinquent when he was at the garden, most people seeming to either not recognize him or not care so long as he was contributing to society in a positive way and not instilling bad habits or manners in their children.

Little did they know that with every shift, Kit left the garden with a fresh supply of his own seeds tucked away in his hair.

Today's spoils consisted of herbs for his personal garden, things that were often used for cooking and were in need of replenishing. There were flower seeds too, of course. Particularly those for a rose bush that he could cultivate indoors. They were his favorite...

But before he could take them back to his dorm he'd made a stop at the grocery store to pick up supplies for dinner. It was that trip that kept him away from campus until evening when, strolling along the pathway back toward student housing, he happened to spy someone curled up on a bench attempting to suffocate themselves with cigarette smoke beneath the paper-thin shield of a newspaper. He'd thought nothing of it at first and had been prepared to ignore the tiny cocooned lump, but when he happened to catch the paper dropping from the corner of his vision and saw him...well, he had to stop.

Dressed as he was in a pastel pink sweater, faded jeans rolled up at the ankles, loafers and his black gloves, Kit was prepared to handle an early autumn windy day. But even he would have found sleeping on a bench to be a bit too breezy for comfort. Not to mention unsanitary...

He considered the blanket the other boy had with him and the pillow. Something must have happened.]

That doesn't look very comfortable.
