THE STRANGER

"And stay out!"

Amidst the fighting, an angry, thunderous voice echoes into the corridors. Those who have heard him before will realize it’s Luci again. As the group continues to fight, heat from their phones quickly makes itself known. Before long, something is violently expelled outwards from their screens, it transforms into a dark, pulsating energy that crackles like lightning before finding the nearest shadow rat to electrocute.

Soon, the lightning arcs between all of the remaining creatures. They quickly begin to move together, their forms melting into large, dark puddles, forming into a single mass.

You dare do this to me?! You're nothing but a worthless worm! You are nothing,
and your so-called lambs shall be dealt with! This world will continue to exist!

As it speaks, it reforms into a singular, large rat-like humanoid creature with a huamn head. A multitude of eyes begin to open all over its body, looking around at all of the gathered warriors, laughing. It's hideous (warning many eyes).

Such a pathetic lot! Gathered together without hope! This story shall end soon....

It's form completely solidified, a mess of rat-like hair covers its entire body anywhere there are no eyes. The skull that serves as a head laughs again.

Come then, children! I will tuck you back to sleep as you well deserve.
Naughty children must be punished!

"Ahh um...oops." The voice doesn't seem that sympathetic. "Didn't think it'd be that pissed off...well you guys know what you gotta do right? You have to win! I'm not sure how but..."

The situation seems rather dire....

But a vision rocks them briefly, of a blue room and a woman holding a clipboard, tapping it with her pen.

"It seems we meet again...or, perhaps, for the first time. Pardon us for the interruption, but we are most curious to see where this battle goes. You could say...your lives depend on it."

A man appears next to her, grinning, before taking a brief bow.

"Your skills so far are quite glorious, but your true strength has yet to awaken. Right now you work as individuals, but please think about what potential you might all have working together."

The vision fades and the danger comes back to you as the monster roars. You won't have much time to think of the words but...faced with death, the faster you figure it out, the better.

[OOC - We apologize for the lateness of this post due to RL issues. Good news! Combo spells are now unlocked.

When your character begins to attack the monster, please create a new thread in this log with what basic spell they are using.

Any reply with a similar attack spell (not of the same element necessarily) will increase its power by one. We will wait until either 6 replies to make a full spell, or a day has passed and count the attack towards the monster. Like all bosses, it is immune to a certain elements, but the description in the log should have given you a clue (of course if the navigators scan for it, they may find additional information. If you are a navigator, please title your post with what they do.)

There is an ending if it survives (bad) or if it gets killed (good). Good luck!]

Bait, huh.

Well, they'd drawn out the true creature - from their screens, weirdly enough, which was fucking insane - and now Taro is standing in front of the weird creature. He spreads his furry arms wide, standing atop his Persona. He lets his voice project, and lets the psychic link carry it, too.

"Come on, you eyesore! You and your kind are ugly creatures that don't even deserve our time! Don't think that you can beat us! We're all together in this, and you are alone. So go on! Leave this place! We're never giving it up, so move!" And then he quickly casts Sukukaja on himself, just so he has a chance to run.

[While he is still disbelief of a talking raccoon trying to insult the Shadow, he decides to follow the tanuki in order to make sure he will have some support despite being the bait. Upon seeing him cast Sukukaja on himself after taunting the boss, Sycamore quickly casts the same spell on Taro just in case.]

[While Taro makes questionable life choices, Chikusa is already using Scan as he tries to stay away from the creature's vision in order to find any other weaknesses. With how many eyes it has, that's probably a small chance, but you never know. More eyes doesn't mean better perception.]

[In the meantime, he'll try to stay near enough to Mukuro, even as he tries to take stock of what combatants are near him or not.]

[With all the eyes that thing has, it's hard to tell where its attention is focused, but regardless, it seems like this is the chance to strike. The goal was to lure out its true form and then end this as quickly as possible, so... here goes. He's not sure exactly what working together means, but he's been sticking with Ankh, at least since they had some kind of plan, so that's at least one more person who can use fire. Maybe others. He sends a message to everyone else who might be in range to attack.]

I'm going to hit it with fire. If you can do that, too, then do it!

[The more he can gather, the faster this thing will go down, or so he hopes. The more damage he can do to this creature, the better. The way it was talking, it's responsible for this whole mess of a fake life, so it deserves every bit of the anger Gladion has built up over the past month.

He waits a moment for the message to sink in before he casts the spell.]

[ The moment they hit the gym, Ankh took to the rafters. Up there, all he had to do was keep out of the reach of rats and use his ranged attacks to help any flagging allies. The bait group was already ahead, and the other group moving around when the creature zapped out of their phones and solidified. Ankh made a tch sound under his breath, finding it a clumsy looking thing not at all unlike the form Mezool and Gamel had taken that one time.

As Chikusa started his spell, Ankh readied his own. The Scan was all well and good, but they can't afford to let it attack when the others weren't completely in place. So a quick Rakunda to cut the defenses of the thing. and a mental nudge to the rest of the Awakened to get them going. ]

Just like we had planned. Navigators keep your eyes on the Combatants. Keep them boosted and healthy as much as you can. Combatants, have at it.

[Yui never wanted to have to fight. There's still part of her that's panicking and insisting this. But more than that, she doesn't want anyone to die.]

We need to stay alive. No one's going to die.

[Maybe if she keeps saying it, she'll start believing it. It's at least getting her to act.

She casts Boost on herself, then casts Psi on the creature.]

If there's anyone else with psy, maybe we can at least throw off its defenses!

[Jaune couldn't use fire...but he knew something of teamwork. Back home just because a spell was a different element didn't mean they couldn't be combined. Jaune didn't know if this would work but fire and light weren't so different. This might help.

So he casts the spell and hopes for the best.]

[Makoto can't use psy, but he can throw another spell in there. Marchiosas howls, loosing a ball of energy towards the creature after Yui's spell.]

Keep on it! Don't let it get away from us!

[It's not going anywhere, and neither is he. He brandishes his scythe-gun, aiming it and getting ready to fire the next time the thing moves.]

[Gladion's attack went off shortly before, and he's learned from that whether the elements match doesn't seem to matter so much. So he tries adding his fire to the mix.]

I don't have Psy, but maybe this will help.

((Break down the wall: Escaping the Hallway))
[No matter what anyone agreed on for how to win this fight, the first thing that needed to be done was to get out of this corridor and away from the lockers snapping and throwing people about. A spot on a hopefully outside wall is chosen and while those with the energy or weapons for it begin hammering at said wall in hopes of crumbling it. Others are set around and in front of said wall breakers in order to protect them from the rats still coming for them. Best hope that wall comes down quickly before the rats figure out what is going on and put more effort into stopping them.

Or at least get whatever little tricks you are planning to leave as a send off once that wall falls.]

[Despite the amount of toe stepping and arguments over views regarding how this would all go down, necessity and just sheer need to survive had finally gotten something to solidify as a plan and while likely some would still do their own thing that likely would help overall in confusing the hoard into thinking they were disorganized and easy to overwhelm.

Whatever the case may be, several small groups peel off into the night the moment the a way out has appeared, as if attempting to flee this battle. At the core of these groups is at least one or two navigators and a few combatants. Enticing targets for some of the rat hoard as everyone begins to stream out of the narrow corridor and into the wider area of the school. Some of the more explosive minded of the group may also be helping to shove everyone out so it's just rats left trying to surge out of the hole and thus into a surprise.

If not detonating that last surprise or enticing rats to give chase perhaps you've been suddenly conscripted, or volunteered, into grabbing anything and everything of use in creating traps and barricades as set up in thinning out those rat numbers when the bait groups circle back around to one of the large sports complexes nearby.

Hopefully the bait group has enough stamina and the trap makers are quick in setting everything up to turn the tables on this mob.]

((An Appearing Boss: Springing a Trap and Luci's surprise))

[The bait groups have lead the bulk of the hoard into the one opening into the gym and the various traps have started to be sprung as the ones setting this ambush up spring in to action.

All this suddenly changing as Luci's voice rings out and suddenly what once was a large group of enemies becomes one large enemy now between the baiters and the trappers. Will you stay on your side of the battlefield or will you move and attempt to group up with someone outside of your original group?

Either way this is the real test now. Hopefully everyone has been conserving energy as this looks like it might be a new level of difficulty.]

((OOC: This is just a top level for people to help orient themselves in regards to where their characters are for this boss fight. If you want to use this toplevel to thread out any of these scenarios with people go for it. Or just use it as a reference for your toplevels/planning.))

[Working with others was Mukuro's last ditch resort for anything, but he could acknowledge to himself if no one else that it would be in his best efforts to chip in for now. Especially since his abilities were so new and strange.

He was quick to follow the other navigator's lead, casting Boost on himself, and then Psi on the creature.]

Does it look like it's working?

[Being bait wasn't exactly Mukuro's favorite position to be in, but considering the circumstances, it was certainly satisfying. He was looking forward to taking down the creature who had greeted him so rudely earlier tonight, and it would be a nice test of his new skills.

He was fine with following the other unseen Navigator's idea, casting a quick Tarunda in order to cover more of their bases.]

Is it more effective if we cast the same spell together?

[Naki doesn't have any fire spells, but...maybe his wind spell could help? Either to hurt the enemy or maybe to fan the flames. A bigger fire is a better fire, right? Yeah.

He throws his Garu into the mix.]

[She'll try, anyway. She doesn't know how much else she'll really be able to help like this.]

[She gives him a look of gratitude.]

Thank you. I don't know if anything I do myself will be enough.

I don't know. I don't know what that would even look like.

[She remembers that the Riders made it look so easy. Explosions, monsters showing damage--she's not sure what to look for here other than it to drop dead, and that hasn't happened yet.]

[Kaltz doesn't have fire spells, and ice likely wouldn't mix well. But maybe dark would work. If there could be a devil of fire, dark and fire should mix well enough.

He casts his spell atop the others.]

[Of course that would be his luck. He shouldn't be too judgmental because he was in the same boat, and yet...]

Perhaps we should try the same spell in sync. It might make the effect more noticeable.

[It's not fire, but...lightning is known to cause fires, right? It's still a form of energy. Similar concept, similar enough - magic is beyond him but he won't know the rules if he doesn't test everything. Science has never really been his strong suit...

So he casts, adding electricity into the mix.]

[Lightning is all he's got, he's not sure just hitting things would blend well with magic. Sounds like a recipe for friendly fire to him, and he's not interested in being reckless for no reason. He's not going to make a losing bet.]

Of course we're not going to die.

Fusion spells.

The rules have changed, Jun knows that. The game is the same but the rules are different, and it's still foggy territory, but this he knows. One of the old rules was to figure out the combinations themselves...if that much is the same, then he has an idea. He doesn't know everything the group as a whole has access to. That's fine. He just needs to reach all of them.

The nearest navigator might get a bit of a mental nudge.]

Can you help me reach as many people as possible? This sounds incredibly similar to something I'm used to. We'll have to experiment with combinations - but numbers and order mattered before. They might matter now, too. Try anything you can think of, rather than just throwing everything you've got at once at it!

I'm using a wind spell - can someone follow it up with a single slashing kind of spell? Punching or another kind of physical attack may work, too, I don't know - I want to test something.

[Garu and Straight Slash had made Wind Slash EX. Garu and Sonic Punch had made Pegasus Strike. He has no clue if this will work, if this will look anything like what he's used to...but it's a starting point.]

[It took a few seconds for Genda to register just what exactly Jun was asking for when the mental request had came through. It doesn't take long for him direct himself to where it felt that request had came from. Marchosias already out and Cleaving into the spell that had been set off.]

If it doesn't happen the way you expect it to, what is the next suggestion?

[Sukukaja...right, fusion spells aren't just for attacking. He doesn't have Heartfelt Prayer, but the rules are different, and he still has a healing spell - maybe something will happen.

So he adds a dia to this. If nothing else, it'll help out whoever it hits a bit. They've been fighting for a long time already.]

Watch for what does happen. If two separate attacks hit, we know that combination isn't useful. If they combine somehow, next time we add a third attack. Make note of any combination you can and what happens. Testing systematically would be best, but a group this size makes that difficult.

[He hopes things aren't as specific as "use Nova Kaiser, Bloody Honeymoon, Foamy Lover, Cross Fortune, and Crescent Mirror in precisely that order". He hopes someone getting hit with poison or something won't cancel any fusion they achieve. Too many variables, and he still doesn't know enough.]
