The enemy didn't seem to particularly care about what it expected or not, in this case. Rats surge forward, continuing to pour through the floor, aiming to cover as much ground as possible, hunting for prey. The shadowy areas might be hard for normal people to see, but not so for glowing-eyed rats; one in particular takes immediate notice of where Heiji stayed standing and veers directly towards him, mouth open to display wickedly sharp teeth as claws scrabble against the ground at an awkward run.

Maybe it'll veer away? Maybe it'll appreciate that attempt at hiding? Neither of these things prove true.

Its mouth opens even wider as it nears, glowing eyes narrowing in preparation for attack. Down through the shadows races an even darker patch of pure black, tendrils of night drifting off behind it. It strikes the rat square in the chest, causing it to vanish with a screech.

Normally, Kidou would at least try not to attack something at the last possible second, but these rats leave him no choice, not if he wanted that eiha to count for something. He drops down onto the ground in a dramatic crouch, as he sacrificing a somewhat safer perch on Eligor for a need to at least try to protect someone else. His cape doesn't get much chance to settle around him before he's standing back up and keeping next to this new person.
